(Dress and) Sweater Weather

I can't wait to stop wearing a parka. I'm not asking for summer weather, just something more comfortable, like 16º instead of -16º. Looking through family photos again and loving these ones of my mom and her sisters in their dresses with cardigans and little jackets. also, how cute are those boys in their little suits? Pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty cute.

Is This Some Kind of Groke?

Today my friend Allison and I were watching YouTube videos of baby animals, when she mentioned that she'd recently seen a cartoon about Moomin. We have a Moomin alphabet book (actually given to us by Allison) that I really love, but the show was even more amazing than I could have imagined! I love the look of the stop motion and the felted characters. It's also a little bit creepy, but you know, in a good way.

Apparently there is also a Moomin movie coming out soon, with music by Björk. Ahh-dorable.

Yes, a Filly is a Foal

Penny Arcade
owner and dear friend Rachel Sheehan has been kind enough to let us keep our little corner open at her store for awhile. Meanwhile Jes and I have been busy working on the treasures I collected in Alberta and Utah over Christmas, and other pieces we've found here in Toronto.

Examples of some of the items I'm excited about:

1. The tiniest pair of Wranglers I have ever seen

2. A quilted floral vest that reminds me of a handmade jacket my mom had as little girl

3. A maroon velvet dinner jacket and matching vest for the little sophisticate

4. A red plaid dress with smocked daisies and a peter pan collar

5. Infants' red, white and blue train sweater (possibly the cutest sweater I have ever seen in my life)

Everything should be in the store as of this week, so if you're in the Toronto area stop in and have a look. Otherwise we'll try to have the online store up and running asap!

Little Britain

The Hucklebones spring/summer 2011 collection does little to disprove my theory that British children are all insanely adorable. I can just imagine each of these girls sounding like Lola from Charlie and Lola.

Family Photo Project

I've always loved looking through family albums, especially at the clothes and hairstyles of my relatives when they were younger. Here are some favourites of my grandparents Keith James (top) and Elsie Finch (middle, bottom) as children in the 1930s. I'd love to track down some pieces like these for Filly and Foal-- especially the funny little summertime romper in the middle.

This Is Our Blog

My friend Jes and I both have 1 year old daughters. We also recently started a vintage children's clothing line called Filly and Foal. This is our blog.
