Extra! Extra! Read All About It!

Filly and Foal has a new online shop! For those of you that don't live in the GTA, now you can buy our stuff from the comfort of your computer or mobile device! You also might be thinking, "Hey! The Filly and Foal shop looks just like the Filly and Foal blog!" and you'd be right because we like to do things matchy matchy here! And since we like to make things easy, you can also find a direct link to the shop conveniently placed at the top of this page :)

"I love you Fiona"

I was excited to find this old copy of Mary Poppins because I've always had a soft spot for the movie. But the best part is the declaration of ownership ("Fiona") in orange marker on the cover and the endearing childish scrawl ("I love you Fiona") on the first page. This treasure really encapsulates one of my favourite things about vintage-- discovering the unique details of a particular item. Our latest haul has been especially fruitful in quirky details.

1. These tiny leather booties bear the unfortunate brand name of "Pussyfoots". But aren't they are insanely adorable? And even more so when you imagine a cat wearing them?

2. I love this dress. I love stripes, I love pleats, I love 100% cotton. But mostly I love the fact that there is a little ladybug button that is sewn in the centre of the bodice; a tiny friend for the lucky kid that gets to wear this.

3. If a happy childhood were a sweater, i bet it would be hand-knit and cream-coloured with a hood and wooden buttons. Looks like little GONZALEZ - L really hit the jackpot.

(As always, all of these and more can be found at Penny Arcade)

Yes, a Filly is a Foal

Penny Arcade
owner and dear friend Rachel Sheehan has been kind enough to let us keep our little corner open at her store for awhile. Meanwhile Jes and I have been busy working on the treasures I collected in Alberta and Utah over Christmas, and other pieces we've found here in Toronto.

Examples of some of the items I'm excited about:

1. The tiniest pair of Wranglers I have ever seen

2. A quilted floral vest that reminds me of a handmade jacket my mom had as little girl

3. A maroon velvet dinner jacket and matching vest for the little sophisticate

4. A red plaid dress with smocked daisies and a peter pan collar

5. Infants' red, white and blue train sweater (possibly the cutest sweater I have ever seen in my life)

Everything should be in the store as of this week, so if you're in the Toronto area stop in and have a look. Otherwise we'll try to have the online store up and running asap!
